“Asian skin is particularly affected by pigmentation disorders. The biological mechanisms of the melanin synthesis is very complex. Our last findings suggest that in adjunction to epidermis, the dermis, the thickest layer of the skin under the melanocyte, plays an important role in the pigmentation process.
This is a totally new approach because until now, we used only to consider the epidermal layer to control hyperpigmentation. Indeed, UV radiations penetrate deeply within the skin, down to the dermis, causing inflammation. To fight hyperpigmentation, we should now also consider the dermal compartment by targeting the 2 keys mediators produced during UV-induced inflammation, IL1α and PGE2 without forgetting all the messengers produced at the epidermal level”
